La Ciotat is located in the middle of a large gulf, called the Gulf of Love, 33 km from Marseille and 40 km from Toulon. It is located in the heart of the Calanques National Park. Its two calanques, Le Mugel and Figuerolles, differ from those of Cassis by their red color and typical shapes (eagle's beak, dog's head). La Ciotat celebrates every year the memory of the plague of 1720, when it became the breadbasket of Provence, as it was the only maritime city spared by it: a historic festival where the entire city is transformed and dressed as it was at that time. In March, the large regional boat show takes place in the waters of the port.
