Marseille coastline

As we all know, Marseille is located on the shores of the Mediterranean, but what you may ignore  is that the Marseille coastline is more than 57 km long, from the Estaque to the north to the creeks to the south. Discovering this maritime frontage of Marseille is a leisure activity on its own. Get yourself into light clothing, bring water and let's see what the Mediterranean coasts have to offer to us.

We will go through the first stretch of our walking tour by riding bicycles we just rented in the Vélib station at the Prado roundabout. We will ride along the Corniche Kennedy cycle path to the Prado beach. Along the way, admire the exceptional view of the islands of Marseille by crossing the Vallon des Auffes and Malmousque, discover the splendor of the Porte de l'Orient, beautiful residences and monuments in these districts. Wonderful, isn’t it !

You have not seen anything yet, our walk has just begun. Now that we have arrived at Prado beach, let's take a tour around the Borély park with its racecourse, its golf course and its botanical garden. It is exceptional to find yourself in the middle of this vast expanse of greenery, a stone's throw from the beach, breathing the sea open air mixed with the fresh one of nature.

We shall leave here our bikes and shall continue by bus, heading to the "end of the world", towards the village of Goudes, passing by Pointe Rouge, Madrague and Montredon. We arrive at the gates of creeks. Here in Goudes, it's the end of the world according to Marseille people. So, let’s admire this landscape, these cliffs with steep slopes, these coves that host small picturesque fishing port. We will stop in one of these beach restaurants for a lunch.

You heard about the majesty of the calanques of Marseille and you wanted to judge that by yourself? Now that you are there, what do you say? Breathtaking, isn’t it? Let’s continue towards the east, to Callelongue, then Sormiou, through the mountain massif of Marseilleveyre. You have the choice between a hike, on the heights and admire the landscape from above or we can opt for a boat trip, sailing on the clear waters of the Mediterranean, with a quite different vision on cliffs and white rocks that surround small coves.

We have just walked along the coast of Marseille. Now, you know where beaches are, you have seen the creeks, you had the opportunity to pass through various coastal quarters and discovered their respective charm. Tomorrow you will choose one of these places and spend the day indulging in leisure activities.
